Get ready to discover the 5 Top Cut Flowers for October – a month that expresses the changing season quite unlike any other.

It was a tricky to narrow down the shortlist, with so much to choose from, but our experts have picked what’s best, bold and beautiful for this month.

#1 Chrysanthemum Blooms | Disbudded

Bloom Chrysanthemum, those wonderful disbudded stems that put all their energy into one scrumptious single flower have rightly taken a spot in October’s top 5 cut flowers. It’s true that they are available all year round – however – this is their natural season and there are so many varieties that are just so perfect for autumn bouquets and displays.

Whilst it’s a flower that has long been seen in the UK, there is no shortage of new varieties constantly coming through.

Below shows just a fraction of the selection, but we’ve cherry picked some that you might like for this month.

#2 Rosehips | Rosa (Rozenbottel)

Rosehips may seem like a limited group of berries – but that couldn’t be further from the truth. There is great diversity in the colours, shapes, and sizes of the berries. The placement of the berries on, and structure of the stems varies widely. Stem lengths also vary, from short stems to those well over a metre tall.

They can bring a dose of seasonality into any design. You’ll discover so many varieties available but we’ve just whet your appetite by sharing three different types below.

#3 Hydrangea 'Classic'

It was back in May when we shared the ‘Fresh’ selection of Dutch Hydrangeas available. Now we’re celebrating the ‘Classic’ Hydrangeas that are taking breaths away with their beauty. The Classic Hydrangeas are flowers allowed to mature on the plant a while longer, they make for the most amazing colour combinations and are generally stronger than those earlier in the year.

Pictured below is just a fraction of the stunning selection available. Hover or tap to discover their variety names.

Hydrangea Pompidou Classic
Hydrangea Magical Ruby Red Classic
Hydrangea Fabulous Anne Classic
Hydrangea Rodeo Classic Pink
Hydrangea Verena Classic Purple
Hydrangea Magical Opal Red/Green
Hydrangea Magical Mistral Purple Classic
Hydrangea Elbtal Classic Red
Hydrangea Rodeo Grey Classic

Remember:

Whilst we have no doubt that these will be a huge hit with customers and fly off the shelves (so to speak) this type of hydrangea dry or preserve very well too.

#4 Brassica | Cabbage

Don't underestimate the range!

You’d be forgiven for thinking the selection of brassica is limited. However, even this humble bract has new varieties being brought to our attention each year.

Allow the images to scroll through and you’ll see 10 different varieties, we limited the images here to that number but there are so many more available. We chose these to share the diversity of colours and shapes – there’s no denying they differ greatly!

#5 Leucospermum | Pin Cushion Proteas | Nutans

You probably think of Leucospermum as a tropical flower and you’d be right. We list them in our webshop under exotics. They are native to South Africa and part of the protea family. Often known as Pin Cushion Proteas and Nutans.

The reason they’ve taken their place in the 5 Top Cut Flowers for October is because this is the time of year we see them arrive in greater quantities, variety selection, and quality. As is often the case with tropical flowers, their stem length is excellent, but it’s their fantastic eye-catching look that makes them a fabulous choice for designs in autumn and winter.

Hover or tap on the images to see the names of the different Leucospermum illustrated.

Leucospermum Ayoba Orange
Leucospermum Ayoba Sun
Leucospermum Ayoba Yellow
Leucospermum Tango
Leucospermum Soleil
Leucospermum Jelena
Leucospermum Haw Catherina
Leucospermum Succession
