About the Competition
This Floristry World Championship is the floral highlight of the year for many florists around the globe. This renowned competition brings together the very best international florists, each representing their country.
This year there are 24 competitors that will create five (or six, for the top ten competitors) designs over three gruelling days.
For the competitors, the work began many months — if not well over a year — ago, and most will have won a string of feeder competitions in their own country to be chosen as their country’s representative.
This is the very highest level of competition and includes tasks that have likely been planned and practised by the competitors for many months, but these are coupled with surprise items to ensure the florists’ abilities are tested to the full.
Who, What, Where, When, & Why?
This renowned competition takes place once every four years but for most it will be known as Florint’s famous ‘EUROPA CUP’. For many years competitors from beyond Europe have been taking part in this senior floristry championship, so the rebranding seemed a natural progression for the competition, that’s why 2025 sees the renaming of the competition to reflect how it will be a true world championship for the first time.
Florint has evolved from a European trade association into an organization with global ambitions and worldwide members. Each time the competition takes place they partner up with the country who wins the bid to host the competition and this year it’s the Royal Dutch Florist Association (VBW), who are delighted to invite you to the Netherlands, the heart of international floriculture, for the Florint World Championship Floral Art 2025. From August 28 to 31 in The Hague. Perhaps the most fitting location for the first of the Florint World Championship the first of a truly global level!
Floral Fundamentals will be present during The World Cup Floral Art, providing demonstrations and workshops, from other outstanding florists from around the world, including our very own Lizzie Newcombe. Floral Fundamentals aims to share practical information about flowers, plants and new sundry products used in the floral industry. They really appreciate what it’s like for florists and aim to show practical, commercial ideas that will give florists a design edge. Floral Fundamentals work closely with growers and often share practical information along with new varieties and provide a close link between florists and the grower who welcome feedback about their flowers and plants.
If you fancy a floral getaway, we can’t recommend this event enough!
Joseph Massie - UK Competitor
As a country, we have a very safe pair of hands representing us, as a familiar face returns to the global stage: @Joseph Massie will compete at the World Cup Floral Art to represent the UK through the @British Florist Association.
Although Joe stepped away from competitions for ten years, he’s certainly not one to be underestimated!
His multi-award-winning career speaks for itself, with a string of high-profile competition wins under his belt — including five RHS Chelsea golds, all by the age of 23. Beyond the UK, he’s also no stranger to international competitions, having represented the UK at Eurofleurs twice (once finishing 2nd after narrowly missing 1st place) and Worldskills (where he achieved 3rd place).
This time, however, the challenge is quite different, as he explains:
A bit more about Joseph
As if being an extremely talented multi-award-winning florist isn’t enough, Joe is an author of the #1 Best Seller book; The Flower School, podcaster of Flowers After Hours and the creative entrepreneur behind an online learning platform; Flower Class. His artistic endeavours have seen him travel globally on a wide variety of floral art projects. Joseph’s work has since been featured in press including The Times, The Independent, The Telegraph. Perhaps unsurprisingly, his work has been commissioned by international institutions and brands.
You can enjoy many different designs he’s created for our friend at Marginpar here.

You’ve only got to Google Joe or Joseph Massie to see a plethora of incredible designs, but to give you a little taste of the incredible attention to detail that Joe will share at the World Cup Floral Art 2025, take a look below.
Here we share shots of his bridal bouquet design from British Florist Association Florist of the Year Competition 2024 – the Heat Competition Joe won leading to this International Final. Although the images don’t do the design justice, you can begin to see the exceptional artistry and outstanding workmanship that Joe exudes.

Final thoughts
Whilst the Floral Art World Cup may seem far removed from everyday floristry, its influence is much closer than you think. Just as catwalk fashion shapes what eventually appears on the high street, competitive floristry sparks ideas and sets trends that trickle down into shops, event work, and everyday bouquets.
We’ll be cheering Joe on from start to finish, and we encourage you to follow the competition closely. Whether for inspiration, trend-spotting, or simply to admire the artistry, this is a not-to-be-missed celebration of floral design at its very best.
