Vanda Orchids well on the way!

We’re pleased to share the latest positive update from Ansu about their Vanda Orchids, following their awful news we reported in our article a couple of weeks ago.

Five Weeks On!

A Quick Reminder of What Happened

A power failure in Ansu’s largest glasshouse caused the shutters to stay open and vents to remain closed. As a result, many Vanda Orchid plants were scorched by the sun. Over half of Ansu’s orchids were affected — a heartbreaking setback for our valued suppliers and friends.

Steef van Adrichem, Ansu’s Commercial Director, shared a video on 10th April 2025 showing the full extent of the damage. We’ve included this video again below, so you can see how much progress has been made since.

Key Points

Normal Production Resuming Soon – In just eight weeks, Ansu expects production to ramp up significantly. Full production is set to return after the summer. Luckily, demand for Vanda orchids is typically lower during the summer months, so this recovery timing works out well.

Hundreds of New Plants –Ansu has received hundreds of new plants from their partners in Thailand. These, alongside many of their own surviving plants, are expected to produce stems ready for cutting in around eight weeks. More replacement plants are due to arrive soon to take the place of those that couldn’t be saved.

Pink Vanda Production unaffected – Ansu’s pink Vanda orchids were housed in an unaffected glasshouse. Therefore their production remains excellent, and these stunning orchids are still available to buy and enjoy as usual.

White Ansu Orchids update – The pure white Ansu No. 1 orchids have fared relatively well. Around 70% of these plants are expected to survive and start producing flower spikes again soon.

A strong & hard-working team – The team at Ansu has worked tirelessly to recover from this disaster. Their determination and positive outlook mean you can continue to have full confidence in the quality of their flowers now and when full production returns shortly.

How will this affect me?

As we’ve said before, how this impacts you will depend on your specific needs. Vanda cut flowers are still available, but quantities are reduced for now, and certain varieties may be limited.

If you need particular Vanda colours or types in the next 10 weeks, please get in touch. We’ll liaise with Ansu to check availability or suggest the best alternatives.
