Peony Season Faces Early Setback

The unpredictable weather has thrown us a curveball this year, forcing an early end to the peony season.

Below we’ll quickly share what that means for you and your business.

Peony season ending early 2024

What This Means for You?

The Peonies (Paeonia) that are now available out of Holland will all be marked as A2 quality. There is still currently a reasonable range available from the pre-order section of our webshop; however, it is uncertain how long these will be available. Also, please note that we won’t be listing them for sale or holding any stock at London, as we can no longer guarantee the quality of peonies available.

I Need Peonies for Weddings - What Should I Do?

We understand that this situation may cause concern, especially if you have upcoming wedding orders with brides who ‘must have’ peonies. As always, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us however you wish. You know we’re always here to help.

We can discuss options and find solutions that will meet your needs together. Our team will keep a close eye on the situation and (as you know) have the expertise to guide you as needed.

Depending on your timings, perhaps beautiful alternatives, such as garden roses from growers like Wan and roses listed within the VIP sections, might be a safer option. We’re confident that together, we can find the best solutions so you will delight your clients, even without peonies.

Why Is This Happening?

Peony crops have been severely affected this season due to a series of unfortunate weather events. Excessive rainfall was followed by unexpected hail damage, and then unseasonably hot weather struck during the critical harvest period.

These challenging and unpredictable conditions have significantly impacted both the quality and availability of peonies. Such extreme weather variations are difficult to anticipate or mitigate, but have unfortunately led to the current situation.

Looking Ahead

The seasonal nature of peonies is part of what makes them so special and sought-after, but this is an unusual situation. It is very unfortunate for everyone concerned that this season has presented unique challenges and we’re unable to supply A1 peonies for longer.

We’re always committed to providing you with the highest quality flowers and appreciate your understanding about this situation.

They’ll be back before we know it! We can look forward to, and anticipate the return of peonies next spring. As always, we’ll keep you updated on this year’s developments and availability of the stunning varieties when the new season approaches.

Remember, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to support you and your business however we can.
