Here we share the 10 Top Flowers for winter and Christmas. Will you reconsider some of the flowers you use when you read our line up, top tips and the info you might not know? Are you guilty of overlooking some of these flowers and materials? It is time to add some new flowers to your wintery selection, or do you disagree with our choice and have others you’ll opt for?

Read on and see why we’ve selected the 10 we have…

#1 Ilex Berries

Red Ilex – ‘Verticillata’ variety

Orange / Bi-colour Ilex – ‘Cresgold’ variety

Ilex Citronella 90cm westflor

Yellow Ilex – ‘Citronella’ variety

The selection of Ilex available in November & December is excellent and it’s not just red!

To explain it as an analogous colour harmony ranging from yellow through orange and then to red even simplifies the selection available. With varieties such as ‘Cresgold’ and ‘Julia’ giving different dual-colour berries on the same branch, and shades of red that go from brilliant to darker dramatic tones.

Away from the ‘natural colours’ the closer to Christmas we get the metallic painted selection that grows and grows too.  So whether you use the whole stem or cut them up to use them throughout designs Ilex is an excellent seasonal plant material that’s a great addition to countless designs.

#2 Hippeastrum

Amaryllis (is where you'll find them!)

Whilst we all may call it ‘Amaryllis’ from time to time – and this is where you’ll find them in our Webshop listing, its proper name is actually Hippeastrum. Hence, you’ll often see them listed as ‘Hipp’. Top tip: if you’re using our search box, this is all you need to enter to find them.

Here we’re seeing just a few of the selection available, from the much-loved bright ‘Red Lion’ to the intriguing ‘Tarantula’, the classic bi-colour ‘Showmaster’, the double ‘White Glory’, the sculptural, vivid ‘Autumn Valley’ to the layered ‘Nymph’ and the bold ‘Happy Valley’. Just seven of the many, many varieties available.

If ever there’s a time to use these seriously impressive flowers it’s in the run up to Christmas!
