Get ready to discover the 5 Top Cut Flowers for October – a month that expresses the changing season quite unlike any other.
It was tricky to narrow down the shortlist, with so much to choose from, but our experts have picked what’s best, bold and beautiful for this month.
#1 Chrysanthemum Blooms | Disbudded
Bloom Chrysanthemum, those wonderful disbudded stems that put all their energy into one scrumptious single flower, have rightly taken a spot in October’s top 5 cut flowers. It’s true that they are available all year round – however – this is their natural season and there are so many varieties that are just so perfect for autumn bouquets and displays.
Whilst it’s a flower that has long been seen in the UK, there’s no shortage of new varieties constantly coming through.
Below we show just a fraction of the selection, but we’ve cherry picked some that you might like for this month.

#2 Berries
This year we’ve found it just too difficult to select one type of berry, so get ready for three! Obviously there are many more than this limited selection available throughout October, but we had to stop somewhere!!
Symphoricarpos | Snowberry
Symphoricarpos, or Snowberries, are unlike any other berry. Their naturally arched stems are covered in clusters of berries, making them ideal for adding seasonal shape and playful texture to designs.
Bridging the gap between late summer and deep autumn, they come in shades from fresh green-white through to deep pink, with every tone in between.
They may not be your first thought for October’s top five cut flowers, but we believe they truly earn their spot.
Symphoricarpos Magical Red Riding Hood
Symphoricarpos Magical Ruby Fall
Symphoricarpos Magical Pride Pink
Symphoricarpos Magical Temptation
Symphoricarpos Magical Lemon Lime
Hypericum
Hypericum are available year-round, but in some months the range is wider, and they fit in so perfectly with the season. They also deserve to be celebrated – and October is the perfect month to shine a spotlight on them.
There’s no shortage of colours available within the range of Hypericum. There are many series that can be selected. Our friends at Marginpar have the Flair® range. The Romance® selection is available from the Floral Chain Group of growers, but we’ve showcased the Coco® collection from Florius Flowers. Take a few moments to allow the images to scroll through and appreciate how there is a Hypericum to work with every colour scheme.
The names of each variety can be found by hovering over the scrolling images. Alternatively, tap on the images to open them in a lightbox, with the names shown under each image as you swipe or tap to move to the next.
Rosehips | Rosa (Rozenbottel)
Rosehips may seem like a limited group of berries – but that couldn’t be further from the truth. There is great diversity in the colours, shapes, and sizes of the berries. The placement of the berries and the structure of the stems vary widely. Stem lengths also vary, from short stems to those well over a metre tall.
They can bring a dose of seasonality into any design. You’ll discover so many varieties available but we’ve just whet your appetite by sharing three different types below.
#3 Hydrangea ‘Classic’
It was back in May when we shared the ‘Fresh’ selection of Dutch Hydrangeas available. Now we’re celebrating the ‘Classic’ Hydrangeas that are taking our breath away with their beauty.
Did you see our recent article about the difference between Fresh and Classic Hydrangea Flowers? It’s well worth a read and gives you the opportunity to use the interactive slider to see exactly how the same variety of Hydrangea looks when it is ‘Fresh’ or ‘Classic’.
Pictured above is just a fraction of the stunning selection available. Hover or tap to discover their variety names.
#4 Nerines
Nerines are one of the most elegant and eye-catching flowers, with their slender, smooth green stems and star-like heads. Whilst their heads are clustered at the top of the stem, each is given its own space to truly shine and be fully appreciated.
Like so many flowers, we’ve seen the quality and range increase vastly. They are available in white, peach and apricot tones, from the palest pink right through to hot and shocking pink. There are salmon and red varieties available too. They bring an elegant beauty, practical longevity and wonderful seasonal feel into any design.

#5 Leucospermum | Pin Cushion Proteas | Nutans
You probably think of Leucospermum as an exotic flower and you’d be right. We list them in our webshop under exotics. They are native to South Africa and part of the protea family. Often known as Pin Cushion Proteas and Nutans.
The reason they’ve taken their place in the 5 Top Cut Flowers for October is because this is the time of year we see them arrive in greater quantities, with a wider variety selection and the best quality. As is often the case with exotic flowers, their stem length is excellent, but it’s their fantastic, eye-catching look that makes them a fabulous choice for designs in autumn and winter.

BONUS Product – Glorious Gourds!
So sensationally seasonal
We said at the top of the article we were spoilt for choice this month, so how could we not give you a bonus product!?
Cucurbita Gourds and Pumpkins are truly loved this month. Halloween brings a festive end to the month with pumpkins on display in many places. However, we have the benefit of using and enjoying them before and after the 31st of October.
You don’t need us to tell you the many ways you can use them, but do use them — they add so much interest and encourage both intrigue and smiles.
